Hello, everyone! I am looking forward to a FABULOUS year with you all, students and parents alike! Please navigate the website to find documents and other information. In our classroom...

We welcome visitors! I would LOVE to have you volunteer in my classroom or just come visit. You could serve as an extra helping hand daily, or you could come in for a scheduled reading time (yes, even high schoolers like to be read to!), or you can help plan special events. Really, the sky is the limit when we have enough people on board! Truly, please come visit.

No matter the course or curriculum, RESPECT for everyone and everything is of utmost importance. I value respect for rules and expectations, but I certainly enjoy having fun with my students, too!

In English I, we will immerse ourselves into the world of literacy through reading, writing, thinking, and studying vocabulary DAILY.

In Theatre, we will explore the art of drama and production in a variety of ways.

A little about myself...

This is my tenth year as a Reading/Language Arts teacher. I taught one year as a 9th grade teacher in Jackson, TN, and I have been at Heritage ever since--eight years as an 8th grade ELA teacher and now this year as an English I and Theatre teacher! I love being a part of this school and this community; we are truly like family!

My education is from University of Tennessee-Martin. I have a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Science in Secondary Education. I also am a highly qualified and state certified Reading Specialist with 30+ hours of graduate course work in reading development and English as a second language. During graduate school, I taught Developmental Reading to college freshmen as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for four semesters. This experience provided me with a great deal of experience in both reading development and teaching struggling readers.

Here at Heritage, I am involved in a variety of extra-curricular activities; mainly, I sponsor the Junior Beta Club alongside Mrs. Buck and Ms. Burden. We are very busy year-round with lots of service activities, meetings, conventions, and fun times!

When I'm not at school, I enjoy spending down time at home with my family and my doggies, volunteering and doing various charity work, exercising, reading, and traveling. I truly believe in the power of giving and helping those who need extra love and care in their lives.
